Maurice CapillaireMC MC / The RusherDate Of Birth : 3/17/70 Discography : View all tracks
When MC MC was 15 years old, he began writing songs, chatting and performing locally. Within two years, he had joined Sound System and enjoyed the challenge of pitching himself against other sound systems.
In 1991, he was approached by Nu-Matic to MC for them. He creatively assisted with lyrics and production on "Spring in my Step" and "Body Fusion" which were released on XL Recordings and consequent nationwide tours offered him an opportunity to develop his individuality and master his skills. In 1992, he became front-man for Nu-Matic and performed at World Dance, Fantazia and Vision. MC MC went to become the most prominent MC that Jungle and Hardcore has ever seen. In 1993 and 1994, MC MC was voted "MC of the Year" at the Kiss FM Hardcore Dance Awards and in 1995 and 1996, he was voted the same award at Dream Dance Magazine Awards. He has watched people come together within the scene and experienced the freedom of music. He says, "This scene has given youth an alternative to street crime and time wasting. Instead, they sit on the streets chatting rhymes, rather than mugging and causing themselves grief". But he also says there are too many closed doors in the faces of new talent. He adds, "I hate the me, me, me" attitude that sometimes surrounds the scene. There are a lot of unfair promoters out there". Luckily for MC MC, he hasn't had many doors closed in his face. He is the voice of the Kiss FM jingles, the front man for The Rushour and the voice that rings in the heads of many a ravers at the end of hard night's partying. Music is his life and his life revolves around music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Jetting off to foreign domain, speeding round the country every Friday and Saturday night and slipping into the studio in between makes MC MC a very interesting read. He plans to run his two record labels, Blacktown and True Face, as successfully as he can, and make a platform for up and coming talented artists. But for the immediate future, he will concentrate his efforts on making Rushour the most potent force in England. He says, "My aim is for us to be revolutionary". Mauritius born MC MC has travelled the world, visiting Canada, Belgium, Japan, Malta and USA coast to coast. But for MC MC, home is best - home being England. He has carefully structured his backing act, The Rushour, with break dancers four MC's, brass players, scratching DJ's and an array of colour and sound. Drum 'n' Bass is the key, but anything goes, from da Funk to da Old Skool and if you are lucky enough to see them perform, you won't be disappointed. In 1998, he toured extensively throughout the world with Adam F and F Jams, hyping up the audiences and choreographing the show. In between travelling, he also managed to uphold his residencies at Moondance, Helter Skelter and Dreamscape, as well as appearing at Slammin' Vinyl, Hardcore Heaven and not forgetting the many other raves over the years, such as Elevation - remember this? "We are Elevation, and we are number one, this is how we do it, and this is how it"s done". Yep, that was MC MC! I don't think anyone's gonna stop this chap. He has springs in his shoes, a microphone in his throat and many, many great ideas for today's dance music scene. With Chris Howell and Adam Mac engineering his material, and The Rushour backing him up, and Stage One behind him, he can't go wrong. He has already achieved success from "Music Maker", but watch out for The Rushour album and check out "Rush 3000". For now, MC MC stays right here! Joy and Pain - Maze |
