Company

Formerly part of The Stage One Music Co Ltd, Just Another Label Ltd (JAL Ltd) is now itself home to several successful ventures within the music industry. Originally establishing in South Woolwich, London in 1991, we began by selling records on a market stall.

From these most humble of roots, we have become a successful and prolific Music Recording, Publishing and Productions Company. We have released a huge range of material on vinyl, CD and digital formats and work on all levels of the industry, from the street right up to some of the major corporations like Paramount, Ministry of Sound and EMI but have always taken pride in being, and shall always remain, a small independent company.

During our many years of trading we have built a wealth of knowledge and experience within the music industry, gaining respect and an excellent reputation.
In May 2003 we were proud to receive a prestigious Ivor Novello award for 'Best Original Music for TV' for writing and producing the musical score for "Feltham Sings" (shown on Channel 4) alongside the inmates of the young offenders institution.

For the past 6 years, JAL Ltd / Stage One has been delivering community-based music and music related projects to young people, including those who are socially excluded. We have worked with the following organisations: Local Councils, Crime Concern, Befrienders, Connexions, Ladders, and the Behavioural Support Unit (Havering). As a result of this we have met some talented and hard-working young people, some of whom we have employed from time to time within our organisation, enabling them to gain valuable work experience.

JAL Ltd / Stage One has also delivered Diversity workshops to further education colleges where a group of our tutors tackle issues around the subject of Diversity, Equal Opportunities and accepting difference.

In the past, Just Another Label Ltd / Stage One have helped to set up and / or administrate a number of other successful music companies such as East Side Recordings, Bonkers, Phantom Audio, Biotic, Nu Energy and Very Bad Music to name a few, as well as the new venture of administration and consultation, Test Pilot Music Limited.

Publishing

Stage 1000 is the music publishing branch of the JAL group and home to our Ivor Novello award. It has been key to our organisation since its inception and holds the copyright to a large number of dance music hits, such as "Follow The Sun", "Champion Sound" and "Here I Am" to name but a few.

Stage 1000, since splitting from The Stage One Music Co Ltd, has ceased to acquire new works and copyrights, but continues to control the back-catalogue of all the company's labels and still achieves various international licensing and placements.

Just Another Publisher (JAP) set up in 2006 is a relatively new venture from JAL Ltd and is a publishing branch established to promote and exploit the works of, and account to the next generation of artists and newcomers to the JAL group.

Both Stage 1000 and JAP pride themselves in their honesty, swift accounting and ability to successfully and fully exploit their publishing catalogue.

Licensing

If you or your company would be interested in licensing any of the music found on this website, our Standard Licensing Agreement will be available to download as a PDF document in the near future.

Until then please contact us via info@justanotherlabel.com for more information on how to license any of our tracks for compilations, media use etc.

Labels

JAL Ltd is an ever-changing and evolving organisation that is home to more projects and labels than the average independent music company!

As well as the obvious like JAL and JAL Premium, we are proud to play host to various other ventures into the Hardcore spectrum, such as Happy Jack Productions, Bonkers and D.A.T.A.

Taking the freeform bull by the horns is the ever popular, respected and diverse Stompin' Choons imprint and the experimental and innovative XY2 label.

Branching out beyond Hardcore, there is the world of Drum & Bass, which is also at the forefront of the JAL group, with close ties to Optical's ventures, EastSide Recordings (owned by Jason Cambridge AKA DJ A-Sides) Biotic (home to Dylan and Facs) and C.I.A, owned by Oxford duo Total Science.

JAL also has its own D'n'B based ventures, such as Genetic Stress and Aim 2 Pleez as well as the groundbreaking Bear Necessities label, home to releases from artists such as A-Sides, Optical and Tight Control.

Last, but certainly not least, is JAL Ltd's favourite label, Narcotix Inc., an experimental venture established for our artists to release music that is unrestricted by genre or form.

Narcotix is essentially a musical playground for our musicians and producers to utilise and explore the realms of downbeat, drum 'n' bass, chill-out and breaks, indie or whatever. Narcotix Inc makes music for music's sake and not for profit, something of which we here at JAL are very proud.

Although The Dance Music Library is a relatively new venture, our company was producing production music for major players like Extreme Music, Carlin, Ded Good and BMG even before its inception.

Test Pilot Music Ltd.

Test Pilot Music Ltd is a versatile and fast-developing venture established by AJ Wolton in 2006.
Originally a publishing and management company, Test Pilot (administrated by JAL) deals with a range of music from Acoustic to Hardcore and all that falls in between.

The company also provides library music for The DML, JAL and its affiliates as well as making the move to establish its own Breakbeat Hardcore imprint Sound Assassin Recordings in late 2007.

Continued support, consultation and administration from JAL will surely see Test Pilot Music Ltd. and Sound Assassins set for great things!

Noise Factory

"We believe we can offer a working environment that provides the opportunity, with appropriate encouragement, guidance and support for young people to succeed and help them to reach their full potential." - Ola - Noise Factory / Just Another Label Ltd.

JAL Ltd. provides music programmes to engage and empower all young people. We aspire to challenge negative attitude and stereotypes in order to foster personal awareness, self-esteem and confidence. Our music programme is specifically designed to develop raw talent and recognise individuality, give young people new transferable skills and encourage positive self-expression, enabling them to make choices and gain direction in their lives, and in some cases, lead them away from crime and social exclusion.

Previous ventures have included music workshops and vocal coaching, offering a wide range of industry, music and business experience as well as the creation of several CD singles produced by the young people involved.

FoX

Freedom of X-pression is a not-for-profit organisation established by members of the JAL staff and friends / associates of the company. It has been created to help promote self-expression and aid in the acceptance of the underground rave scene.

First and foremost, FoX recognises that UMEs (Unlicensed Music Events) are not going to cease, so with that in mind, we want to work alongside the promotors, ravers and the affected parties to make these events safer and more acceptable in the eyes of the general public.

FoX is working with young people to provide health and safety information, ideas on how to reduce damage to property and wildlife and also to distribute materials highlighting the dangers of drugs to the rave communities using unlicensed venues such as fields, derelict buildings and disused barns.

We hope that through this we can demonstrate that a more considerate and thoughtful attitude can easily be adopted without tarnishing the raving experience.

For those who are interested, the FoX Constitution is available to read online if you go to the 'About Us' menu and select 'FoX - Freedom of Xpression Constitution'.

This document is the official low-down on how we do things here at FoX and what guidelines we have to adhere to.
